Exploring fine-scale ethology as a lever fo improving fishing gear
Résumé :
Exploring the behavior of fish towards fishing gears and how they interact with installed devices has given important insights in adjusting gear design to be more selective and sustainable. Can baits for low-impact fish pots be modified to attract a target species? Can lights act as behavioral guidance for a certain species during capture? These are questions I aim to examine at a fundamental level as I look into the early stages of gear design. I use imagery data, machine learning, and semi-automatic techniques in behavior quantification to assess movement patterns of fish in different environmental conditions.
