Research
My researches contribute to understand how biological features emerge, maintain, decline and disappear, by the joint effects of multiple stochastic, transient and stable ecological and evolutionary forces in time and space.
In this context, I am interested in studying the dynamics of genetic and phenotypic diversities within populations and species that are important for ecosystems health and human activities, to understand the intrinsic and extrinsic biological processes and environmental changes that impact biological evolutions of populations.
For many species, we cannot humanly and materially study these questions by using direct observations and monitoring of individuals in their environments. I thus develop models, methods and studies using genetic identities between lineages of individuals and genetic diversity measured within individuals and populations as a more universal abstract way (proxy) to track populations and study the ecological and evolutionary processes they experience.
Research questions
I develop theoretical and applied studies and models in
- Population genetics,
- Demogenetics,
- Population biology,
- Population ecology,
- Parental and kinship analyses, DNA forensic
to understand the evolutionary dynamics of contemporary species and their interactions.
I’m especially interested in studying the
- Impacts and evolution of reproductive modes, including partial clonality, selfing/autogamy, outcrossing/allogamy/self-incompatibility systems, as reproductive modes determine the transmission of heritable features over time and space
- Evolutionary trajectories of tracked populations (analyses, predictions and inferences) in explicit space and habitats, as most of population biology studies monitor and work on specific populations, that cannot be predicted or inferred using average expectations for any population.
- Selection as a stochastic force, as selection is known to vary over time, space, ecological communities and environment but still mostly modeled as a deterministic stable force
- Management of species important for ecosystem health and human development, and the feedback of human practices on their ecological and biological evolution
- Impacts of human activities and the changes they induce in the environment on population biology and genetic/phenotypic diversity
- Environmental changes in costal and freshwater and associated biodiversity.
