A repository solution to gather and communicate information from EwE models |

Research
Context and Issues
- Ecological studies are increasingly based on data-driven methodologies that rely on pre-existing datasets. However, open-access, digital and cross-disciplinary datasets are still uncommon in ecology
- Sharing data among ECOPATH with ECOSIM (EwE) developers has been a persistent goal, and a model depository was set up on the ECOPATH website
- There has been a large effort to collect information from all ecosystem models worldwide built using the EwE approach
Objectives
- Establishing an up-to-date and comprehensive list of published ECOPATH models and making the models available in an online repository
- Making ECOPATH model data, which are currently available in ECOBASE, accessible to and reusable by the EwE community
Methodology
- Merging three pre-existing lists of ECOPATH models established by Francisco Arreguín-Sánchez (CIC IMARE, Mexique), Lyne Morissette (ISMER, Canada) and Villy Christensen (UBC-Fisheries Centre, Canada)
- Selecting only published ECOPATH models and identifying their associated references
- Collecting metadata about the published ECOPATH models when provided in the associated references
- Leading a discussion within the Ecopath Research and Development Consortium (ERCD) to decide which data will be made available and how (webservices)
Results and Perspectives
- Publication of a Fisheries Centre Research Report presenting the repository (Colléter et al., 2013)
- Presentation at the ERDC meeting (Colléter et al., 2012)
- Use in a variety of meta-analyses
Publications issued from the project
