NOURPIE: Updating the NourPress database to calculate the ELFI-C Indicator on the Channel and Atlantic coasts

The Bay of Biscay and the English Channel host important coastal nurseries that are subject to a variety of anthropogenic pressures. A global indicator of these pressures has been developed in France for estuaries (Delpech et al., 2010), but it is limited to transitional water bodies.
In previous studies, an indicator was developed using the NourPress database (2010) to quantify and map the pressures affecting French coastal nurseries on the Atlantic coast This work contributed to the development of the ELFI-C indicator for the MSFD (Pirog et al., 2021).
During the NOURPIE project, the Nourpress database will be updated by adding nursery sectors from the English Channel and by updating the time series of the datasets already stored in the database. The latter will be completed by integrating new uses (e.g. port facilities, off-shore wind, etc.). Data processing for certain uses (small-scale fisheries, chemical contamination, etc.) will be improved. Spatialised and integrated pressure indicators will then be calculated at sector level using previously defined methodologies.
The project also plans to further develop the ELFI-C indicator to include new nursery sectors in the English Channel. This will involve identifying the pressure-impact links with the new uses, updating the indicator to define new thresholds, and calculating this indicator for the Channel.
